Get into UX by Vy Alechnavicius.

Immediately into the introduction of this book I can see that Vy has no fluff, he is serious and straight to the point. I really appreciate that.

His breakdown of UX vs UI makes it crystal clear, I absolutely enjoyed his videos to help make the information stick. The video below on his “Bad UX Design Memes.” Hope you enjoy this video as much as I did!

“You need to have a growth mindset, a passion for user-centricity and you should understand that this is a journey which will require unrelenting practice.” [p.22]

This makes me think of all the different hobbies or better yet programs you think you have started to master, only to realize you are at the tip of the iceberg. I am indeed on the tip of the UX iceberg, looking at the long runway of things to learn and experience.

Vy states it several times already (and I have no doubt plenty more in this book) in regards to UI, the best way to learn more is to just get out there and practice, experience, look to other designers. On the flip side, UX involves managing the change and organization with user centric methods in mind versus polished design. The polished part is fun, I love that part, but the UX discover and define phase comes first.

Top three things I need to work on:
1. Discover/ research phase: digging deep and really understanding the “why” of my primary and then secondary research.
2. Exploring all the insights and themes.
3. Worrying less about the “designing things right” phase.
