Config 2022 -Name Card →Figma

Is anyone else attending Figma’s Config this year? I was pretty excited about it, but I am even more excited after creating my name card for it. Ironically, this morning I just read on Medium about Neubrutalism. And what do you know, I am later creating a name card in that style! It was fun and way different from what I usually do. This style has really grown on me. I’m not sure if I would want everything to adapt to this style, but having the variety is fun.

How people think.

Book: 100 Things Every Designer Needs To Know About People by Susan M. Weinschenk Ph.D. This section was dedicated to how people see and a lot of the research and science. Things I thought were interesting: processing information, uncertainty, mental & conceptual models, and time. Processing information “Think progressive disclosure…

How people see

Book: 100 Things Every Designer Needs To Know About People by Susan M. Weinschenk Ph.D. This entire section was dedicated to how people see and a lot of the research and science behind it. The insights that stuck out to me were: proximity, affordances, and color-blindness. Proximity: People group things…

April: UX Book Challenge

A few days later than I wanted — but I finally made time to draft up the chapter guidelines to get through this month’s book. This is now the perfect time to announce the book: 100 Things Designers Need To Know About People, by Susan M. Weinschenk, Ph.D. (Not an affiliate link.) The image below is the outline of what sections to read by when, this is what I’m personally using to keep me on track. Save it, take a screenshot, whatever you need! After each “due date,” I’m making a post with my thoughts. No set goals except to help me really think about what I’ve read.

Part 4: What to do once you get there (the bonus part)

Building forward momentum! A theme that has been throughout this book so far is that you will have to continue learning about UX. You don’t want to be on the peak of mt. stupid, you also want to be in the valley of despair, you want to always be moving…

3.6: Get the job

Get Into UX by Vy Alechnavicius The two other blockers that Vy breaks down in this section are “feeling like an imposter” and the “yay/nay-sayers.” “If you feel like an imposter, it’s probably because you are one. That’s not a bad thing!” Vy Alechnavicius First off, that damn imposter syndrome…

3.5: Demonstrate the Evidence

Get Into UX by Vy Alechnavicius My major takeaway from the beginning of this section is to consider the needs of your target audience… If you can’t UX your portfolio, how would you research and design someone else’s product or service?? Your keys users: are the recruiter and the hiring…

Part 3.4: Practice UX & collect evidence along the way.

Get into UX by Vy Alechnavicius. How do you get better at something? You practice! To get better at UX design, you have to apply your skills. Okay, well on what? The beautiful thing is you can practice it on just about anything. Start having a critical eye in your…

Part 3.3: Gain a deep understanding

Get into UX by Vy Alechnavicius. I enjoyed Vy’s analogy of the rocket in regards to learning. He stresses that you need to be constantly refilling the tanks and continue to be critical of what stage you are in your journey and how your skill sets are. Your two fuel…
